Wave Classic Invitational Kicks Off In Essaouira
Essaouira - After a four-day delay because of unfavorable weather conditions, "Wave Classic Invitational," a new form of windsurfing international competition, kicked off Friday afternoon on Essaouira coasts
Several internationally renowned windsurfers are taking part in this edition, including Moroccan windsurfer Guilloul Boujmaa, which was to begin on Monday, but was postponed due to the lack of sufficient winds.
This is the first competition of its kind in Morocco and the third in the world after Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) and La Reunion (France).
According to organizers, "Wave Classic" aims at boosting windsurfing to provide a stunning spectacle, promoting team spirit and highlighting the beauty of nature and the ecological character of this sport and its dynamism.
On the sidelines of the one-week event, participants will conduct an awareness campaign on environmental protection by launching an operation to clean the city's beach and dedicate a day to teach the basics of windsurfing to a group of children.
