Rabat - Morocco and the World Bank (WB) signed, on Wednesday in Rabat, an agreement on the first loan of the development policy for the urban movement sector amounting to 100 million euros (around 1.12 billion dirhams) Signed by Economy Minister Salaheddine Mezouar and Director of the Maghreb Department in the World Bank Simon Gray, the loan, approved by the Bank on March 15, aims to back the upgrading of urban transportation in the Kingdom's large suburbs.
The development program for the urban movement sector comprises tangible actions, on the short and mid terms, seeking to boost capacities in the towns' urban transportation and set rules and regulations to ensure the success of devolution.
The program is based on three principles namely improving the governance of the urban movement sector through the creation of a national commission for urban transportation (CNTU), promoting the efficiency of services of urban transportation and infrastructure by restructuring Rabat-Sale-Temara's bus transportation, and boosting the socio-environmental viability of the said sector through slashing greenhouse gas emissions.
