Fez - The historically renowned Medersa Cherratine of Fez is hosting until April 8, a new exhibition to revitalize the “hammam” or traditional Moorish bathLaunched under the name “Hidden door, living treasure” the exhibition is part of a project dubbed “Hammamed-Euromed Heritage” funded by the European Union and supported in partnership between the Agency and Dedefensification Redevlopment (ADER-Fes) and the National School of Architecture of Fez (ENA).
The goal of the exhibition is to first and foremost enhance the cultural life of the Fez medina while sharing its hidden treasures with the public and to highlight the famed medersa Cherratine as a place dedicated to knowledge and culture, Naima Lahbil, project manager of Hammamed in Morocco, told MAP.
Lahbil added that this exhibition utilizes objects, video installations, panoramic pictures, models and films to communicate a deep look at the past, present and future of the hammam, ubiquitous to Mediterranean countries.
The exhibition features architectural, artisanal and social dimensions of the hammam mainly from Fez and other Arab cities like Damascus and Cairo.
