Rabat - After eight days of colourful music spectacles, the 10th edition of Mawazine Festival: Rhythms of the World came to an end, on Saturday in Rabat, with a rocking performance by Colombian pop diva, Shakira

With hits like “whenever”, “My hips don't lie”, and “loca”, the international star gave one of the most memorable shows in the history of the festival to the delight of her numerous Moroccan fans.

Born in Colombia of Middle-eastern origin, Shakira sang her famous “waka waka”, the official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, entertaining thousands of nonstop screaming, jumping and waving fans.

The megastar also performed skilful belly dancing sequences especially when singing her hit Spanish language single “Ojos asi”, which features a Middle Eastern melody.
Speaking at a press conference before the concert, Shakira said she grew up hearing Arabic music by Egyptian Umm Kalthum and Lebanese Fairuz, and would love to sing in Arabic.

“It would be amazing to participate and collaborate with great Arabic producers or singers. I am open to that experience,” she said.

On Africa, the Multi-Grammy Award winner expressed her commitment to the continent, saying “growing up in the coast of my country Colombia, I learnt to love and live with the African culture.”

She also said that “there is so much to learn from Moroccan women”. “I love Morocco; I think it is an amazing country with such a rich culture,” she added.

Held on May 20-28 in Rabat, the Festival brought together a galaxy of world renowned stars including Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Lionel Richie, Roger Hodgson, along with other artists representing different eastern, western and African musical styles
