Abdelati Iguider, former runner-up in the world 1,500 junior championship, and
runner-up in the world indoor championship in Doha in 2010, managed to grab the
golden medal, ahead of his countryman Amine Laalou, in 3:34:25 and Saudi Mohamed
Shaween.
In the women's 800m race, and contrary to expectations, Halima Hachlaf emerged
victorious ahead of her countrywoman Hasna Benhassi, a two-time world runner-up
and silver- and bronze-medal winner in the Olympic games who was expected to
grab gold.
Mouna Tabessart and Btissam Lakhouad came in second and third respectively in
the women's 1,500m race, behind Kenyan Nancy Lagat.
The fifth Moroccan, Abdelali Hachlaf, finshed third in the 800m race behind
Sudan's Abubaker Kaki and Algeria's Anter Zerguelaine.
The meeting was marked by the 2.31 high jump by Russia's Dimitri Aleksey, two
centimes only less than the world's best performance of the year.
The Kenyans continued to dominate the 5,000 race, winning the first seven
places, with John Kemboi finishing first behind Sammy Mutai and Abraham Chebi.
The world 100m champion Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser, made a time of 11:13:100,
ahead of Chandra Sturrup (Bahamas) and Tianna Madison (USA).
