Rabat - The EU-Morocco Joint Parliamentary Committee is "a forum for the exchange of viewpoints and proposals that will support the process of the implementation of the advanced status," Committee Co-president Mbarka Bouaida said "It's also a forum to follow up and supervise all actions taken in the framework of the advanced status and contribute to the works aiming to harmonize legislations in Morocco and the EU, notably in social and employment fields, but could be widened to cover other fields like economy," Bouaida underlined in an interview published on Monday by the French-speaking daily "L'Economiste".
The EU-Morocco Joint Parliamentary Committee, whose founding meeting was held last Wednesday in Brussels, is composed of ten European MPs and ten Moroccan MPs of the two parliament houses. the Committee is co-chaired by Moroccan Mbarka Bouaida and European Panzeri Pier Antonio.
The first meeting of this committee was an opportunity for both parties to discuss organizational issues concluded by the adoption of the rules of procedure with some modifications requested by the Moroccan delegation, she said
The Moroccan party wished to hold two official annual meetings to tackle all issues of common interest. “We want to intensify our formal and informal meetings and create the opportunities to work together,” Bouaida said.
"We want to institutionalise this committee with our European counterparts and we insist that all matters relating to Morocco-EU relations should go through our Joint Committee. We want also to broaden the powers of the commission to all issues, even those that go beyond the association agreement, " added Bouaida.
