Casablanca - The works of "Nador West Med" (NWM), a mega complex with port, industrial and commercial infrastructure, will be launched in northeastern Morocco with the construction of a tanker terminal by 2010, Minister of equipment and transport, Karim Ghellab, revealed on MondayThe tanker terminal, which constitutes the core of NWM, will be operational by the end of 2015 and will have a storage capacity of 1 to 2 million tonnes as well as a 3,000-meter quay, Ghellab told reporters at a press briefing with several cabinet ministers.
The NWM will be built on a 850-ha area and will comprise a big deep-water port, an energy centre (for production, packaging and storage), a port platform for container transshipment, import and export of unpackaged products and an integrated industrial platform open to national and foreign investors.
The complex, which was announced last week by King Mohammed VI, will be built 30 km west of Nador in the Botoya Bay.
